IRVINE, Calif. (October 18, 2021) – The Big West has partnered with the U.S. Council for Athletes’ Health to serve as Chief Medical Advisor to Commissioner Dan Butterly. USCAH will offer consultation on medical recommendations and protocols for The Big West, including but not limited to COVID-19 safety and return to play policies.
“The health and safety of student-athletes within The Big West is a paramount mission that aligns within providing them the best possible collegiate experience in education, competition, and life beyond athletics,” Dan Butterly, Big West Conference Commissioner, said. “Vital to that mission, and with this partnership, is to work with the U.S. Council for Athletes’ Health to best establish policies and protocols that assist The Big West and our member institutions to assure our student-athletes their health and safety is a top priority.”
An independent, third-party provider of athlete health and safety consultation, education and compliance, USCAH will provide athletic healthcare advising, policy and procedure development and educational services to The Big West. Each Big West member institution will also receive a membership to the Athletic Healthcare Administrator Association and will have the ability to contract USCAH for additional, individualized services.

USCAH partners with teams, leagues and organizations at all levels of sport to provide athlete health, safety and welfare consultation, education and compliance resources. It works with more than 100 schools at the college and junior college level and currently has league-wide partnerships with eight Division I and II conferences, including the Pac-12 and Big Ten.
